History
Its berry cone was known as a medicament already in antiquity and has been used by doctors right up to our time as a remedy for diseases of the bladder, skin, for arthritis, as a diuretic and as a depurant. The juniper was also a holy tree, and smoking with juniper berries protected against plague and other infectious diseases believed to have been caused by witchcraft.
