History

Originally native of the steppes of Central Asia, but, already in antiquity, the plant was spread all over Asia and Europe. It is mentioned as a medication in a variety of ancient texts. Garlic has been used for a great number of diseases, especially as a diuretic and anti-congestant, as a remedy for intestinal worms, burns and toothache. In addition garlic was considered as a preventitive against illness in general and as a protection against sorcery.
