History
Among the oldest, recorded medicinal and poison plants. The entire plant contains the poison hyoscyamine, in addition the seeds contain scopolamine. Small does are hallucianagenic, and, therefore, the plant has been used by oracle priests and fortune tellers. It has been used medically as a pain-killer and as a soporific. In large doses the poison results in fits of rage and convulsions. Poisoning can cause death.
