History

Dried valerian root has been used as a remedy years for, as an example, pest, arthritis, and dropsy. In recent times it has been used by both doctors and in folk medicine as a sedative. As a magic herb valerian gave protection against evil powers and witchcraft, and a drink with pulverised valerian was considered to be an excellent aphrodisiac.
