History

Known in ancient Greece as a sorcerer’s herb. Ancient medical books warned against the use of the plant because of it toxicity. In the Middle Ages the bulbs were considered effective against podagra, and the plant’s seeds are still an ingredient in medications for podagra and arthritis.
