History

Used by doctors in antiquity to prevent conception and as an abortifacient. Used in folk medicine for hysteria. The plant’s evaporation of volatile oils is so great that, on hot days, the vapour can be ignited. It is assumedly this plant that is referred to in Exodus, chapter 3, v. 2, concerning the angel that revealed himself in the flame.
